This cross-sectional survey of elderly drivers is assessing knowledge and behavior of prescription and over the counter (OTC) medication use and driving. A random sample of elderly drivers (age 50 years and older) licensed to operate motor vehicles in the state of Alabama will be selected. Subjects will be contacted via telephone and asked to participate in the survey. Demographic, medical, and medication data will be collected as well as information regarding subject knowledge of potential effects of medications on driving ability. The results of this study will be informative and have implications for health care professionals, older drivers as well as the general public since previous research has not addressed this question.
